Our Cannabinoid & Product Guide
The Hemp
Field Guide
An introduction to the remarkable medicinal chemistry of hemp, the compounds that make it so extraordinary, and the art of formulating them.
One plant. An extraordinary range of possibilities.
Hemp. One of nature's most remarkable medicinal plants.
For thousands of years, hemp has been valued as a botanical resource. Today, modern research is uncovering more about the extraordinary chemistry that makes this plant so interesting.
What sets hemp apart is its ability to produce an unusually diverse family of compounds that interact with biological systems throughout the human body. Its flowers contain cannabinoids, aromatic terpenes, flavonoids and other botanical constituents, each with its own properties.
Think of hemp as a botanical library. One plant produces an entire collection of compounds, each with a different molecular structure and a different way of interacting with the body.
A plant with remarkable chemistry.
CBD is just the beginning. Hemp also produces CBG, CBC, CBDA, CBDV, CBN and many other cannabinoids. Alongside them are aromatic compounds such as beta-caryophyllene, linalool, myrcene and limonene.
These compounds are concentrated in tiny glandular structures on the flowers called trichomes. This is where much of the plant's cannabinoid and terpene chemistry is produced and stored.
Why this matters.
Different plant compounds have different biological properties. Some interact with cannabinoid receptors. Others influence serotonin receptors, sensory channels or inflammatory signaling. Their diversity gives us an opportunity to formulate with more than one compound and build botanical profiles around different everyday needs.
We see hemp as more than a source of CBD. It is a remarkably complex medicinal botanical, and its full potential deserves to be understood.
What makes hemp so special?
Three important groups of plant compounds help explain why hemp has attracted so much interest: cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.
Cannabinoids
These are the signature compounds of hemp. CBD, CBG, CBC, CBDA, CBDV and CBN interact with cannabinoid receptors and other biological targets involved in mood, stress response, pain signaling, sleep and inflammatory activity.
Terpenes
Terpenes are aromatic compounds found throughout nature. They give lavender its floral scent, citrus its bright aroma and pine its fresh fragrance. They also have their own biological properties.
Flavonoids
Flavonoids are plant compounds involved in pigmentation and plant defense. They have attracted research interest for antioxidant and other biological properties.
The complete botanical profile
Together, these compounds create the complexity of the hemp plant. Their individual characteristics are part of what makes different hemp extracts and botanical formulations unique.
From the plant to the bottle.
The quality and composition of a hemp extract begin with the plant itself. Cultivar, growing conditions, harvest and extraction all influence the resulting botanical profile.
Our own farming history gave us a deep appreciation for this process. Today, we bring that botanical understanding into a small-batch hemp formulary, using carefully selected extracts and deliberate ingredient ratios.
A natural connection to the body's regulatory system.
One of the most fascinating discoveries in cannabinoid science is the endocannabinoid system, a network already present throughout the human body.
This system helps coordinate communication involved in maintaining homeostasis. Think of homeostasis as the body's internal balancing act: keeping different systems working in harmony while responding to everyday demands.
The endocannabinoid system participates in regulating communication involved in:
Mood and stress
Emotional response, stress signaling and the body's ability to adapt to changing demands.
Pain perception
How the nervous system receives and processes information about physical sensation.
Sleep and appetite
Processes involved in rest, energy balance and appetite regulation.
Immune activity
Communication involved in immune responses and inflammatory activity.
Your body already speaks the language of cannabinoids.
The body produces its own cannabinoid-like messengers, including anandamide and 2-AG. These molecules communicate with receptors and help regulate biological activity.
Plant cannabinoids interact with parts of this network and other signaling systems. CBD, CBG, CBC and the other compounds found in hemp each have their own characteristics and mechanisms.
For example, CBD influences several biological pathways involved in stress response and pain signaling. CBG interacts with other receptor systems. CBC has an interesting relationship with anandamide, a molecule involved in mood, pleasure and pain signaling.
This is the foundation of our interest in hemp: its compounds interact with systems the body already uses to communicate and regulate itself.
Meet the compounds that make hemp extraordinary.
Every cannabinoid has a different molecular personality. Understanding what each one does helps explain why we select particular compounds for particular formulas.
Cannabidiol
Major cannabinoidThe versatile foundation of our formulary.
CBD interacts with serotonin receptors involved in mood and stress response, TRPV1 channels involved in pain signaling, and pathways related to endocannabinoid activity. Research also explores its influence on inflammatory signaling.
In everyday life, these systems are relevant to how we experience stress, mood, physical discomfort and sleep. CBD's broad biological activity makes it one of the most versatile compounds in hemp.
Cannabigerol
Minor cannabinoidA distinct cannabinoid with an interesting relationship to mood and nervous-system signaling.
CBG interacts with alpha-2 adrenergic receptors and other signaling targets. A 2024 human study found that adults taking 20 mg reported reduced anxiety and stress compared with placebo, along with improved verbal memory performance.
These findings make CBG particularly interesting for research involving mental stress, mood and cognitive function. Preclinical research has also explored its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties.
Cannabichromene
Minor cannabinoidA fascinating cannabinoid with a relationship to anandamide, sometimes called the bliss molecule.
Anandamide is a naturally produced molecule involved in mood, pleasure, reward and pain signaling. Laboratory research indicates that CBC can inhibit its cellular reuptake, potentially allowing more anandamide to remain available outside cells for longer.
CBC also interacts with TRP channels involved in how the nervous system processes pain, temperature and irritation.
Cannabidiolic Acid
Minor cannabinoidA naturally occurring hemp compound with its own distinctive biological activity.
CBDA has been investigated for its interaction with serotonin 5-HT1A receptors, which are involved in mood, nausea and communication between the brain and digestive system.
Animal research has demonstrated anti-nausea effects. Other studies have explored its influence on COX-2, an enzyme involved in producing inflammatory chemicals.
Cannabidivarin
Minor cannabinoidOne of hemp's less common cannabinoids, with a particularly interesting neurological profile.
CBDV interacts with TRP channels, including TRPV1 and TRPV2, which help nerve cells respond to stimulation and communicate information throughout the nervous system.
Researchers have investigated CBDV in relation to neurological function and seizure activity. It adds another distinct dimension to hemp's cannabinoid chemistry.
Cannabinol
Minor cannabinoidA cannabinoid attracting particular interest for nighttime rest.
CBN develops primarily as THC changes through oxidation and time. It has its own pharmacological profile.
A 2024 placebo-controlled human study involving 293 adults found that 20 mg CBN reduced nighttime awakenings and overall sleep disturbance, although it did not significantly shorten the time needed to fall asleep.
This makes CBN especially interesting for people who struggle with waking throughout the night.
The aromatic side of hemp.
Cannabinoids are only half of the story. Terpenes are another important part of the plant's chemistry, bringing their own biological properties and distinctive botanical character.
We find terpenes in familiar plants all around us. They are responsible for the scent of lavender, the brightness of citrus, the aroma of black pepper and the freshness of pine.
Some interact with pathways involved in nervous-system activity, inflammatory responses and sensory signaling. We select terpene combinations as part of the overall composition of our targeted formulas.
Beta-Caryophyllene
Found in black pepper and cloves. BCP is especially interesting because it binds directly to CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which participate in immune and inflammatory signaling.
Limonene
Found in lemon and orange peels. Research has explored its relationship with inflammatory pathways, neurological signaling and mood-related activity.
Linalool
Found in lavender and other aromatic plants. Research has explored its effects on nervous-system signaling and pathways associated with relaxation and stress response.
Myrcene
Found in hops and lemongrass. It has attracted research interest for its relationship with inflammatory processes and sensory signaling.
Alpha-Humulene
Found in hops and other botanicals. Preclinical research has investigated its anti-inflammatory activity.
Nerolidol
Found in jasmine and other aromatic plants. Research has explored its relationship with relaxation, nervous-system activity and inflammatory processes.
Eucalyptol
Also called 1,8-cineole. Found in eucalyptus and rosemary, it has been investigated for its relationship with inflammatory pathways and respiratory function.
Alpha-Pinene
Found in conifers and rosemary. Research has explored its relationship with inflammatory signaling and other biological processes.
Beta-Pinene
Another pine-scented terpene found in conifers and aromatic plants. It contributes to botanical complexity and has been investigated for biological activity involving inflammatory signaling.
Geraniol
Found in roses and other aromatic plants. It has been investigated for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in preclinical research.
Camphene
Found in fir needles and rosemary. It has attracted research interest for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in preclinical models.
Alpha-Terpineol
Found in many aromatic plants. It has been studied for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and calming properties in preclinical research.
Alpha-Bisabolol
Found in chamomile and other botanicals. It has been studied for soothing and anti-inflammatory properties, including in skin applications.
Understanding the plant is one thing. Knowing how to formulate with it is another.
This is where our work begins. We take the chemistry of hemp and turn it into deliberate, concentrated botanical formulas.
At Organic Green Roots, we don't approach hemp as a one-ingredient business. We work with major cannabinoids such as CBD and CBG, alongside less common compounds such as CBC, CBDA, CBDV and CBN.
Each has different biological characteristics. We consider those properties when deciding which cannabinoids belong together, how much of each to use, and what supporting terpenes complete the formula.
Ingredient selection
We select cannabinoids for their individual properties and the role they contribute to the complete formulation.
Intentional ratios
The relative amount of each cannabinoid matters. We build formulas with specific concentrations rather than relying on CBD alone.
Botanical support
Terpenes add another layer of chemistry. Our targeted formulas each have their own distinct terpene profile.
Concentrated delivery
We translate these formulations into measured tincture oils, making it easier to understand and work with the amount of each compound.
Different compounds. Different roles. One considered formula.
Think of a formulation like an orchestra. Each instrument has its own sound and contribution. The art is in choosing the right combination and getting the proportions right.
That is how we approach cannabinoids and terpenes. We build each formula around a deliberate botanical composition, not simply a high CBD number on a label.
Why we love tincture oils.
For us, tinctures are one of the most compelling ways to experience the chemistry of hemp.
A concentrated hemp extract brings the plant's cannabinoid chemistry into a convenient liquid format. Each serving can be measured, adjusted within the product's guidance and incorporated into an everyday routine.
Unlike a single-ingredient supplement, a thoughtfully formulated hemp tincture can bring together several cannabinoids and supporting terpenes in one bottle. This makes it possible to create different botanical profiles by changing the ingredients, concentrations and ratios. Our tincture formulas deliver a ratio of hemp compounds not possible in nature. For example most minor cannabinoids occur in less than 1% of the plant - our formulas increase that amount.
Three ways to explore hemp.
We organize our tinctures into three collections. Each has a different purpose and a different approach to the plant's chemistry.
Foundation / CORE
A broad six-cannabinoid formula that brings together the major and minor compounds we work with throughout our collection.
Targeted / Five formulas
Purpose-designed cannabinoid and terpene combinations for mood, focus, relaxation, sleep and physical comfort.
PRO / Individual cannabinoids
Concentrated individual cannabinoids for customers who want to explore a particular compound, alongside selected full-spectrum and broad-spectrum options.
All three collections are built around the same philosophy: understand the plant, respect its chemistry and formulate with intention.
CORE. The complete foundation.
Six cannabinoids. One comprehensive everyday formula.
CORE is our broadest multi-cannabinoid foundation formula. It brings together six different hemp cannabinoids in one bottle, offering a more complete introduction to the diversity of the plant.

Find your formula. Understand your serving.
Tincture oils make concentrated hemp extracts convenient to measure and incorporate into a daily routine.
We recommend 0.25 mL as a general stating amount across all formulas. However cannabinoids are highly individualized and you will need to experiment with your serving size to find your best personal amount. With with pain and sleep needs, higher amounts may be needed to begin. Below is a common dosing range for our formulas.
120 servings per 30 ml bottle.
120 servings per 30 ml bottle.
120 servings per 30 ml bottle.
Individual cannabinoid concentrations and serving guidance differ.
A simple way to approach serving size.
Gentle
0.25 ml is the gentle serving recommended for all tinctures to determine effects.
Increase
0.5-1.5 is the standard range for most tinctures. Clarity and Uplift should be on the lower end of this range, with sleep, calm and pain-less on the higher end.
Adjust thoughtfully
Follow the individual product's directions and adjust your serving amount as needed.
Make your routine consistent.
Use the measured dropper rather than estimating. Pay attention to the formula, amount and timing, and give yourself time to understand your response before making changes.
Individual response varies. Cannabinoids can interact with medications and can cause unwanted effects, including drowsiness. Consult a healthcare professional before use if you take medication, have a medical condition, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not drive if impaired.
Layering cannabinoids thoughtfully.
One of the interesting things about the OGR collection is that you can explore hemp through complete formulas or individual compounds.
CORE and the Targeted Series already combine multiple cannabinoids. The PRO Series makes selected individual compounds available for people interested in a more customized approach.
CORE
Six cannabinoids in one formula. A straightforward way to explore the diversity of hemp without selecting multiple individual products.
Build around a particular focus.
Choose UPLIFT, CLARITY, CALM, SLEEP or PAIN-LESS as your primary formula. Each already has its own cannabinoid ratios and supporting terpene profile.
